A player must know of the card ranks and the hand ranks as well.
To rank the cards from highest to lowest:
Ace
King
Queen
Jack
Ten
Nine
Eight
Seven
Six
Five
Four
Three
Two
Ace
To rank the hands from highest scoring to worst score or no score:
Royal Flush: It means that you have 5 consecutive cards, all of the same suit, the 1st card being 10 and the last card being an ace. Your 5- card consists of Ten, Jack, Queen, King and Ace, all of the same suit.
Straight Flush: You have 5 consecutive cards, all of the same suit like having Three of Clubs, Four of Clubs, Five of Clubs, Six of Clubs and Seven of Clubs.
Four of a Kind: You have four cards of the same value but of different suits.
Full House: Your card contains three of a kind and a pair at the same time.
Flush: You have 5 non-consecutive cards of the same suit.
Straight: All of your five cards are consecutive. Cards are not of the same suit like having Three of Clubs, Four of Spades, Five of Clubs, Six of Diamonds, and Seven of Hearts.
Three of a Kind: You have three cards of the same value.
Two Pair: You have 2 sets of pairs of the same card value.
Pair: You have two cards in your hand that are the same value. And they must be Jacks or better because anything lower is not considered to be a winning hand.
