The Myth Behind “Hot” And “Cold” Machines In Video Poker

There are a quite a few superstitions surrounding poker–and even video poker–that have been built up over the years. The subject of “Hot” and “Cold” machines in particular is one that has cropped up with some regularity. These are simply video poker games that allow a higher or lower percentage of winning respectively. However, the fact of the matter is that no such machines actually exist. All video poker machines currently in operation rely on a mechanism called a Random Number Generator or RGN that ensures their randomness. This is legally required of all video poker machines, and ensures that each possible card combination has an equal likelihood of coming up.
